Dear Intercessors,

The attached map will give you the location of the Belcher Islands in the Hudson Bay. The isolated Inuit community of Sanikiluaq is on these islands. This is probably not only the most remote and isolated of Inuit communities, but it has been the most resistant to the gospel because of a tragic misrepresentation of God which took place in that community back in the early 1940s.

A religious frenzy turned into what has been called the "Belcher Island Murders" which you can read about at this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belcher_Islands

Just today, I have received an e-mail from Johnny Oovaut, the former mayor of Quaqtaq, Nunavik. Johnny is presently being mentored by Steve Masterson of Promise Keepers to do a men's ministry in Nunavik, and is being greatly used of the Lord. Johnny is even now in Sanikiluaq, and has met with two sons of the people who had murdered others in the Name of God back in the 1940s.

These sons now want to identify with the sins of their ancestors, and repent, and Johnny is recommending to them that we bring a healing the land team into that community to do a cleansing, and a healing of the land, if they are willing to give an invitation.

You can read the correspondence that I have just had with Johnny Oovaut below, but I am sending out this information to get intercessors praying, because this could be huge for this community which has been tightly closed to allowing missionaries or outsiders to come into their community ever again since this happened nearly 70 years ago.

When John Spillinaar who planted most of the churches that I work with in the Eastern Arctic tried to get into Sanikiluaq in the 1970s, he was told he had a choice: either to get on the next plane back home, or else he would be banished on to one of the remote Belcher Islands with no hope of rescue. He ended up taking the next plane out of there.

So please make this a matter of prayer, because everybody up North knows about these murders, and how it has brought a stain and a reproach on all who bear God's Name, and who have wanted to see a breakthrough in that community.

God bless you, and your prayers will be ever so much appreciated.

Yours in Christ,

Roger Armbruster
