  5. At last night's "Fire in the Night" night watch at the Niverville Prayer Centre, I felt the value of spending an extended time just waiting upon the Lord. It is during the night season, when we are away from the day's distractions, that God can seemingly drop fresh revelation and new songs in the night into our hearts.

I was reminded of how David pioneered 24/7 praise, prayer and worship at the Tabernacle of David, and one of the secrets of his life seemed to be the fact that he "took back the night." His prayer life was active right at a time when the enemy was also active, and because God was able to reveal Himself to him during the night season, he could become proactive instead of reactive against the enemy's schemes.

"I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel. My heart also instructs me in the night seasons" (Psalm 16:7).

"You have tested my heart. You have visited me in the night. You have tried me and have found nothing" (Psalm 17:3).

"O my God, I cry in the daytime...and in the night season, and am not silent" (Psalm 22:2).

"The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me--a prayer to the God of my life" (Psalm 42:8).

"The day is Yours, the night also is Yours" (Psalm 74:16).

"In the day of trouble I sought the Lord. My hand was stetched out in the night without ceasing" (Psalm 77:2).

"I call to remembrance my song in the night. I meditate within my heart, and my spirit made diligent search" (Psalm 77:6).

"I have cried out day and night before You" (Psalm 88:1).

"You shall not be afraid of the terror by night" (Psalm 91:5).

"It is good...to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night" (Psalm 92:1, 2).

"I remember Your Name in the night, O Lord" (Psalm 119:55).

"My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word" (Psalm 119:148).

"Behold, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, who stand by night in the house of the Lord!" (Psalm 134:1).

The priests would minister in the house of the Lord during the night as well as the day, and would keep the fire in the lampstand burning, "to cause the lamp to burn continually" (Exodus 27:20).

The watchmen on the wall (intercessos) would stand on guard during the night watches in particular when the enemy would try to get in while others were sleeping.

God led His people, not only in a pillar of cloud by day, but also in a pillar of fire by night. Psalm 78:14. Psalm 105:39.

The pillar of fire by night gave warmth, light and direction during the night! Let there be Fire in the Night in Niverville!
